Description
Tape
Softube’s versatile tape machine stands out from other tape emulators by reproducing a wide range of tones, from subtle tape character to rich, warm saturation.
An analog tape recorder smooths out the sound, adding weight and coherence while transforming a recording from a collection of individual tracks into a cohesive and compelling musical piece.
The Softube Tape Pack uses component and physical modeling of three different tape recorders, allowing you to achieve authentic vintage character in a single device.
Simple and Straightforward
Choose your favorite tape machine—A, B, or C—and adjust the Volume knob, or simply load one of the presets to give your tracks an analog tape character.
Tape machines are processor-friendly, so you can use them on your main track or add one to each track for a retro feel. They deliver rich detail and texture without placing excessive demands on your CPU.
Choose According to Your Taste
Type A is based on a classic, high-end Swiss reel-to-reel tape machine known for its precision and linearity.
Type B is much more colorful. Based on a transformer-based tape machine, it adds extra weight and richness to the low frequencies.
Type C is based on a British tape machine with a distinctly vintage character.
Features
- True analog tape recorder sound
- Three types of tape recorders included
- Easy to use
- Low CPU load
- Wobbler control for authentic wow and flutter effects
Tape Echoes
The unique sound of tape echo can be heard on countless outstanding recordings from the past five decades. Analog tape delays are expensive to purchase and maintain, while many modern tape-delay emulations can introduce unwanted clarity. Tape Echoes delivers the distinctive character of true tape echo.
With the Drive and Dirt controls, you can easily move from unstable, glitchy delays to heavily distorted tape effects. Set the delay time to a minimum to achieve that classic old-school character.
Developed by the Experts
Tape Echoes honors the heritage and spirit of Softube’s original Tape through rigorous A/B testing and detailed fine-tuning. It is designed to capture the sound and behavior of the original hardware while offering additional flexibility.
The exclusive Drive & Dirt features let you quickly transition from subtle realism to extravagant saturation.
Drive controls the preamp and tape-distortion characteristics, while Dirt affects tape speed, wobble, flutter, dropouts, and frequency response.
Connect the Tape
The Tap control captures the depth and character of classic tape-delay equipment. By simulating the sound, behavior, and timing of analog tape heads, it allows you to switch easily between one, two, or three taps.
Feedback amplifies the taps, creating a natural analog effect.
Realism and Versatility
Tape Echoes combines realistic analog delay and spring reverb that behave much like the hardware they are based on.
Use the Delay Time fader to adjust the first delay tap, then adjust the remaining taps as needed. Place the reverb in parallel or before the delay line to move seamlessly from authentic, clean analog tones to distortion-rich reverb.
Features
- Tape echo plug-in with authentic vintage tape-delay character
- High-quality modeling of classic vintage tape-delay hardware in Softube format
- Drive & Dirt controls for clean, saturated, or heavily distorted sounds
- Dry setting for sharp, old-school tape tones
- Create classic dub sounds with distortion, tape flutter, and crushing feedback
- Easily create creative sound effects with exceptional sound quality
Harmonics
Have you ever tried adding character to a track with distortion, only to end up with a washed-out, lifeless sound?
Harmonics preserves the dynamics of the original signal, allowing you to control distortion without sacrificing the character and detail of the source.
The Distortion Dilemma
Guitars, vocals, drums, bass, and synths often need extra punch to stand out in a mix. However, distortion can sometimes damage dynamics and create more problems than it solves.
Too little distortion, and the sound may fail to stand out or fill the space. Too much, and important detail and clarity can disappear.
Harmonics offers five professionally tuned analog distortion models alongside a radically different approach to dynamics processing during distortion.
It analyzes the incoming signal and preserves its dynamics and detail, even when applying heavy distortion.
Features
- Five unique component-modeled distortion sounds
- Dynamic Transient Control technology
- Volume and Character controls for shaping saturation
- Wet/Dry control for parallel processing
- THD meter for precise control of subtle saturation
Wasted Space
If you’re looking for an extreme digital effect with a lo-fi character, Wasted Space is the perfect choice.
Explore the retro aliasing artifacts associated with early digital processing and take them to the extreme. Add Wasted Space directly to individual tracks to accentuate specific elements, or apply it to your main track for an intentionally low-fi sound.
With its retro-futuristic interface and straightforward controls, Wasted Space is a powerful tool for creative sound design.
Use the adjustable sample rate to quickly find the perfect lo-fi character. The filter section lets you shape the distortion using 12, 24, or 48 dB/octave slopes.
With the filter turned off, the sound becomes maximally distorted, while the 48 dB setting produces the smoothest result.
The High-Pass slider reduces high-frequency distortion while preserving distorted low frequencies, helping eliminate excessive boom caused by bass buildup.
Features
- Intentionally enhances aliasing artifacts associated with early digital processing
- From the creators of TSAR-1 Reverb, TSAR-1R Reverb, Spring Reverb, Atlantis Dual Chambers, and more
- Variable sample rate and selectable anti-alias filter types for precise lo-fi effects
- High-pass filter for reducing low-frequency rumble
- Pre-delay and Time controls for adjusting traditional reverb parameters
- Wet/Dry slider for finding the perfect balance in a mix
