Microwave defined hybrid synthesis at its best with its unique interpretation of wavetable synthesis combined with analog filters. Now Waldorf Music brings this magical tool back to DAWs worldwide with the release of the Microwave 1 plugin.

Even the old-school D/A converters of the original hardware have been modeled, with their non-linearities and tone shaping colors, leading to the two Curtis filter chip variants used for the A and B revisions of the original hardware.

The plug-in allows for further artificial detuning and recalibration of the analog components. Brutal attacks, sharp decays, and a wealth of wonderful transients define the sound of the first generation of Microwave.

But the Microwave 1 Plug-In goes one step further: its modern and attractive graphical user interface reveals many aspects of the synthesis engine that were previously hidden in the original hardware by its sparse, difficult-to-use interface.

Its existence, never mechanical-sounding but always distinct, was based on a unique architecture for creating envelopes, LFOs, and modulations, which have been painstakingly recreated by the plug-in down to the smallest detail.

A fully scalable modern interface with easy-to-read, high-contrast fonts supports intuitive audio editing with multiple graphical representations of wavetables, envelopes and filter response curves, with animations for modulations and playback positions. Microwave 1 has never been so close to your fingertips. A joy to edit sounds.

NEW FEATURES:
LFO

  • Can be synced to DAW tempo using different ratios.

Filter

  • Filter response time has been reduced for faster, sharper filter modulation.

Mono Modes

  • “Distribute Mode” in Multi-Instrument Settings (for use in mono mode).

MIDI CC Mapping

  • Explore MIDI CCs in the context menu.
  • CC mapping table in global mode with load/save to file.
  • “Fwd Input” option in Hardware Control for forwarding track MIDI notes etc. from DAW to hardware.
Useful on Windows where there are almost no multi-client Midii interface drivers.

Global

  • “WXYZ Controller” modulation source mappings can be set to MIDI CC.

.mid/.syx File Import

  • Now also works with cartridge dumps.
  • Fixed use of Windows compatible file names.

Presets

  • New Factory bank by Benjamin Wild.
  • Link to Sound Store on website.

Performance

  • UI opening time has been reduced.

Usability

  • You can now also click on value names to display a pop-up menu.
  • Pop-up menus with 2 choices have been replaced with toggle buttons, e.g. Rev A/B filter types.
  • The last zoom level will now be saved globally, e.g. when creating new instances of the plugin.

Installer

  • Removed on MacOS reboot.

BUGFIXES

  • Multi-Mode: Cannot select new factory presets
  • Clicking outside the context menu sets the parameter to the minimum value.
  • Some menus with two entries may be single-click buttons
  • Zoom level not saved globally
  • Shortcuts for long menu entries in UI
  • W, X, Y and Z controllers
  • Wavetable Smooth/Stepped option
  • Spelling error
  • Multimode: new factory presets cannot be selected
  • Improved spelling of various texts
  • Failed import no longer creates custom banks with factory sounds
