Microwave defined hybrid synthesis at its best with its unique interpretation of wave synthesis combined with analog filters. Now Waldorf Music is bringing this magical tool back to digital workstations around the world with the Microwave 1 Plug-in.

Digital Section (ASIC)

  • Internally runs at 250 kHz sample rate to match the original ASIC sample rate.
  • Modeled digital-to-analog converters for each voice (DAC).
  • Two oscillators based on a single wavetable for each multi-instrument.
  • Unique digital noise generator based on ASIC technology.
  • Digital mixer of oscillators and noise based on the original ASIC, including overflow error.
  • Accurate recreation of non-interpolated pitch generation.

Wavetables

  • All original wavetables from Microwave 1, based on the original encoding and identical to the original.
  • Including algorithmic and speech tables.
  • Accurate recreation of 8-bit quantization and aliasing.
  • Easy to use wavetable editor based on internal control tables.
  • Access to the complete waveform catalog of the original instrument.
  • Custom waveform editor.

Filter

  • Accurate modeling of the A and B revision analog filters.
  • Voice-activated individual calibration of cutoff and resonance to model hardware flutter.
  • Cutoff and resonance modulation.
  • Frequency response graph animated with live modulations

Amp

  • Modeling of analog amps with voltage control and panning section.
  • Accurate recreation of voltage-controlled DACs, including step effects.

Modulators

  • Recreation of unique envelope and LFO timings based on the original 68k code.
  • Modeling of beautiful micro-variations in timings due to limitations of the original hardware.
  • Filter envelope with ADSR and additional delay parameter.
  • Volume envelope with ADSR.
  • All filter envelope and volume envelope timings and levels can be modulated.
  • Unique 8-stage wave envelope with variable key cutoff point and looping.
  • Wave envelope levels and timings can be modulated.
  • Attack-Decay envelope for LFO1 with additional delay.
  • 2 LFOs with different waveforms, symmetry and humanization parameters.
  • LFOs can be phase-shifted relative to each other.
  • LFO1 with global option, tempo and level modulation.

Custom tunings

  • 4 user settings can be edited individually.
  • These will be saved in user presets.

Multi-mode

  • Up to 8 instruments that can be layered and split, or any combination of both.
  • Split by key zones and velocity range.
  • Multi-instrument mixer with volume, pan, detune, transpose and many other parameters.
  • Individual adjustment of each instrument is possible.
  • Huge catalog of original multi-sounds.

Polyphony

  • 8-voice polyphony, just like in the original hardware.
  • Dynamic assignment of voices to multi-instruments.

Presets

  • All factory single and multi-presets included.
  • 5 additional original sound sets.
  • 2 new sound sets from modern sound designers.
  • Possibility of importing original .mid and .syx files with preset dumps, including user tables and wave tables.
  • User presets store all additional data, such as user wave tables and tables of settings and speeds.

Hardware Control

  • The plug-in can be used to control the original hardware in single mode via the MIDI interface.
  • Optionally, it can be controlled in live mode, where each control is transmitted automatically.

Additional features

  • Customizable spectrum analyzer.
  • Customizable graphical user interface.

LFOs:

  • Can be synced to DAW tempo using different ratios.

Filter:

  • Filter response time has been reduced for faster and sharper filter modulation.

Mono Modes:

  • “Distribute Mode” in Multi Settings (used for mono mode).
    Midi CC Mapping:
  • Explore MIDI CCs in context menu.
  • CC Mapping table in Global with ability to load/save to file.
  • “Fwd Input” option in “Hardware Control” to send MIDI tracks like notes etc. from DAW to
hardware. Useful on Windows where there are almost no multi-client Midi interface drivers.

Global:

  • “Controller WXYZ” modulation source mappings can be set to MIDI CCs.
    Import .mid/.syx files.
  • Now also works with cartridge dumps.
  • Fixed to use Windows compatible file names.

Presets:

  • New preset bank by Benjamin Wild.
  • Link to the Sound Store on the website.

Performance:

  • Reduced UI opening time.

Usability:

  • You can now click on value names to show a pop-up menu.
  • Pop-up menus with two choices have been replaced with toggle buttons, e.g. for the Rev A/B filter types.
  • The last zoom level is now saved globally, e.g. when creating new instances of the plugin.

BUGFIXES:

  • FS#2209 – Multimode: Unable to select new factory presets
  • FS#2198 – Clicking in the context menu sets the parameter to the minimum value.
  • FS#2192 – Some two-item menus may be single-click buttons
  • FS#2196 – Zoom level not saved globally
  • FS#2197 – Shortcuts for long menu items in UI
  • FS#2178 – W, X, Y, and Z controllers
  • FS#2200 – Wavetable Smooth/Stepped option
  • FS#2207 – Spelling error
  • FS#2209 – Multimode: Unable to select new factory presets
  • Various spelling errors have been improved
  • Import failure no longer creates custom banks with factory sounds
