For us at UVI, the CZ series from Casio has been a long-standing favorite. When we approached the Cameo project, we wanted to make something special that would not only highlight the amazing sound of these classic synths, but also offer something new to our fellow CZ fans.
We started with a few classic, fully serviced models, including the Casio CZ1, CZ101, CZ1000, CZ2300S, CZ3000, and CZ5000, and ended up with 3 instruments – each with its own approach, unique sound, and inspiration.
Cameo CZ Instruments
Cameo CZ features a huge library of custom patches developed on the original hardware. Showcasing the rich variety of timbres possible with phase distortion synthesis, sounds range from complex digital tones to thick and surprisingly analog basses and leads. Cameo CZ provides an incredibly extensive sample library, including variations with and without the flagship CZ1’s unique chorus effect.
Cameo CX
Cameo CX is a dual-layer instrument featuring a large catalog of sounds and dry signals recorded directly from hardware instruments. Using raw waves as the basis for sound design in a modern digital environment allows for a wide range of tones, covering everything from vintage to modern digital bliss. Explore the factory presets or create your own sound from scratch using dry signals.
Cameo CM
Cameo CM reflects our own take on phase distortion sound. Another dual-layer instrument, but this time using Falcon’s wave generator and DSP shaping tools. Cameo CM isn’t sample-based in the sense of CZ and CX, rather it takes a hybrid approach designed to create entirely new and unique sounds with the powerful architecture of the UVI engine. Explore a wide range of high-quality presets or create your own sounds with a full set of synthesis tools and built-in effects.
Whether you’re a fan of classic 80s synth sounds, a fan of phase distortion, or just looking to expand your palette of familiar sounds, Cameo offers a variety of new and exciting sounds with the unmistakable character of some of our favorite synths.
