Release notes for Superior Drummer 3.3.4
CHANGES

General

A MIDI Mapping Layout window has been added. It can be opened from the Help menu as well as from the More menu for each instrument.
“About Sound Libraries” has been removed from the Help menu. (Library versions are listed in the About dialog, up-to-date library descriptions are on the Toontrack website and the MIDI layout can be seen in the new MIDI Mapping Layout window.)

Grid Editor

A new articulation row called “Choke (Stop Playing )” has been added for each instrument that responds to aftertouch. The poly-aftertouch editors have been removed.
Moving the playhead in the song track now scrolls the Grid Editor to show the playhead, unless the Auto-Scroll option is off.

Mixer Tab

The maximum number of mixer buses has been increased from 16 to 32.

E-Drums

The hi-hat splash feature has been improved in order to remove unwanted hi-hat splashes. The hi-hat now has a time window, within which the pedal needs to have been raised after a “Pedal Closed” hit in order to generate a splash.

Settings

In MIDI In/E-Drums settings, there is now an option to show “All Notes in Preset” to only show the notes relevant to the selected e-drum preset/kit.
In MIDI In/E-Drums settings, it now says “-” instead of “No” in the “Edited” column.
On Windows, there is now a setting to invert the horizontal scroll direction when shift+wheel is used.
BUG FIXES

General

When a project was loaded, parameters (macro controls) would get reapplied, potentially changing properties bound to the macros. Now, setting a parameter to the same value that it already has does nothing (for example if the host tries to reapply parameter values some time).
Changing libraries or loading a preset did not make the host get properly notified that parameter values (macro control values) had changed.
The current library preset was not marked with an asterisk if a macro control knob was turned.
Some (few) library presets would for some instruments cause a high-pitched noise at low buffer sizes.
Quitting certain hosts when the VST 3 plug-in had been used could cause a crash.
The setting “Keep Output Routing on Preset Change” was never saved in preferences.

Song Track

While recording, notes did not appear graphically on the red block.
While recording, moving the playhead before the beginning of the red block would graphically start a new block instead of extending the existing one.
The time signature editor did not support keyboard shortcuts for copy/paste.
After dragging a groove from User MIDI, “Remove Groove Part” did not work on the block.
The Auto-Scroll setting was never saved in preferences.

Edit Play Style

Pasting notes on the tambourine or shaker pad should no longer cause a crash.
“Solo Selected” did not work on song blocks that were loaded from a project.

Grid Editor

Adding a Forward/Backward Brush Trigger note at the very beginning of the track would cause a crash. Now the note position gets adjusted so that the “future hit” start time becomes zero instead of negative.

Drums Tab

Trying to audition a disabled articulation of an added instrument via the articulations menu would cause a crash.

Grooves Tab

Fixed some cases where the “Clear All” button wasn’t hidden when no filters were active.
Setting the velocity slider to something other than 0 and selecting a different groove would make the filter always say “+127 Velocity.”

Mixer Tab

Removing an effect with multiple channels selected could cause a crash.

Tracker Tab

Random noise in 16-bit audio could make the tracker find peaks too early compared to using 24-bit audio.
In Tracker export view, starting to drag the MIDI and hitting Esc would close the export view (and leave the drag icon hanging) instead of canceling the drag.
While dragging MIDI from another tab, it was not possible to cancel the drag with Esc in the Tracker.

E-Drums

Changing libraries with an e-drum preset active could in some cases result in incorrect mapping for some notes/instruments.
E-drum mapping for added or remapped instruments was not always loaded correctly.
Floor toms in Hard Rock EZX and Rock Solid EZX were not mapped correctly with some e-drum presets, for example TD-50.

How to install the factory library?

  1. Download “Basic Sound Library”
  • if you need additional microphones, then download from other parts * of the factory library only files with the *.obw extension, which are located in the Sounds folders. We move these files to SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/ (move only *.obw files, not the Sounds folder)
  • I recommend downloading the second and fifth parts (parts 3 and 4 contain files for surround sound).
  1. Download the Superior Drummer 3 Library Update v1.2.0 and run Sound Updater.exe (Windows) or Sound Updater.app (MacOSX)
  2. After the update, launch SD3, click Settings – Libraries/Paths – Add Library Path(s) … – and select the folder SL-SuperiorDrummer3

How to add additional SDX libraries?

  1. From the list of distributions of SDX libraries, which is presented here, download only the folder with the name SL- (name of the library)
  2. Run SD3, click Settings – Libraries / Paths – Add Library Path (s) … – and select the folder SL- (name libraries)
  • It is possible to add all downloaded additional libraries with one click: Create a folder (for example) SDX Library, drop all SDX libraries into it, click Settings – Libraries / Paths – Add Library Path (s) … – and select the SDX Library folder ( this will add all the libraries at once) see the screenshot for an example: How to add EZX libraries? 1. From the list of distributions of EZX libraries, which is presented here, download only the folder with the name EZX_ or EZX2_ (library name)

For Windows users:

2a. Move the downloaded folder to C:\ProgramData\Toontrack\EZdrummer\ (by default, this folder is for storing EZX libraries, as well as folders with MIDI MIDI grooves)

EZX library folder names: – If you want the folder for EZX and midi libraries to be in another place: Create a folder (for example) EZX Library, move all the EZX libraries into it, as well as the MIDI folder, rename the EZDrummer folder along the path (С:\ProgramData\Toontrack\EZdrummer). After opening SD3, in the Grooves tab you will find the error No MIDI library found , click on Libraries Settings and in the Additional Libraries tab select the folder with the EZX Library libraries, restart Superior. For MacOSX users:

2b. Move the downloaded folder to /Library/Application Support/EZDrummer/ (by default this folder is for storing EZX libraries, as well as folders with MIDI MIDI grooves)

EZX library folder names: – If you want the folder for EZX and midi libraries to be in in another place: Create a folder (for example) EZX Library, move all EZX libraries into it, as well as the MIDI folder, rename the EZDrummer folder along the path (/Library/Application Support/EZDrummer/). After opening SD3, in the Grooves tab you will find the error No MIDI library found , click on Libraries Settings and in the Additional Libraries tab select the folder with the EZX Library libraries, restart Superior. I can’t find the SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/ folder To do this, you need to install the factory library, see paragraph 1 of the FAQ

SD3 won’t start. It says ‘The Superior Drummer 3 plug-in could not be found.’

If the message appears when loading the plugin: Run the following commands in the terminal:

The code

sudo codesign –force –deep –sign – /Applications/Toontrack/Superior\ Drummer\ 3.app

The code

sudo codesign –force –deep –sign – /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Superior\ Drummer\ 3.component

The code

sudo codesign –force –deep –sign – /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/Superior\ Drummer\ 3.vst

Error: The installed resources and the plug-in are not the same version!

If you get an inscription like this after the update: It means that when updating over the old version, the new version of the plugin was installed in a different directory than the folder where your other plugins are located. Always pay attention to this: Often the plugin is automatically installed in the folder: C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins\Toontrack To correct the situation, you need to move the plugin with the new version to the correct directory.
