Evolution Texas Twang is a custom Tele-style electric guitar with two single-coil pickups. The bridge pickup provides that nasal sound perfect for percussive chicken picking and bright crunchy tones, while the neck pickup provides a mellow tone suitable for softer playing. Since we recorded both pickups separately, you can mix and match.

Experienced session guitarist and aspiring country singer Chris Bullard was brought in to record the samples. His experience as a touring artist in Texas and Nashville lends the samples an air of authenticity. The purity and grace of his performance can be heard in the many articulations included in the library, from picking to particularly sought-after country articulations such as chicken picking.

The library was developed in collaboration with William Dergank, who oversaw the development of the project. He also edited the samples and contributed to the creation of the presets. His attention to detail was invaluable, setting a high bar for the quality of the library.

The sample set was also run through a distortion pedal as a boosted signal. This pedal, well known among country guitarists, is modeled after the legendary warm overdriven sound of the Trainwreck amp.

Evolution Texas Twang is powered by our Evolution engine, which gives you a ton of features: an innovative strumming pattern editor, automatic chord detection, and a powerful built-in effects engine. The library contains a variety of ready-to-use presets of classic and modern country electric guitar sounds that fit perfectly into the mix.

  • Onboard effects engine for instant access to country electric guitar tones
  • Adjustable pick position using our proprietary physical modeling technology
  • Powerful mapping system that lets you define how articulations are triggered using parameters like velocity ranges, MIDI CCs, latching and non-latching key switches, and more
  • Up to 4x multitracking
  • 21GB of samples (compressed to 8.92GB using the NCW lossless audio format)
  • Articulations like sustain, palm mute, mute, natural harmonics, open/soft chicken picking, and effects like slap, soft strumming, and more
  • MIDI articulations for instant octaves, grace notes, trills, whole-step slides, whole-step hammer-ons, and velocity- and tempo-based slides
  • Legato samples for slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs
  • Sampled in 3 dynamics and 4 circular repeats
  • NKS support

Orange Tree Samples has released update 1.2.5 for all Evolution-based instruments.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Ability to lock individual tunings and articulations, allowing you to switch snapshot presets without overwriting specific tunings and mapped articulations. Note that the old “Lock Mapping” setting has now been removed. If you were relying on this setting in any existing projects, the new version will automatically convert them to use the individual locking settings.
  • New setting: “Performance Effect Keys”, allowing you to control the range of keys that performance effects are mapped to.
  • New setting for Evolution Bluegrass Banjo: “Drone String in All Chords”, allowing you to include the drone string in any chord voicing, or exclude it from chord voicings that don’t include its pitch as a chord tone.
  • Improved fretboard display efficiency.
  • Changed legato pitch and range settings to semitones instead of interval names.
  • Fixed a heap memory issue when unmapping a sustain articulation, but try using one of the MIDI based articulations like slides.
  • Fixed a bug that affected the velocity slide articulation when combined with a sustain pedal press condition.
  • Capo position now modulates the custom chord voicing selection.
  • Open string legato mode now allows not only pull-offs to open strings, but also hammer-ons from open strings to higher notes on the fretboard.
  • Added tooltips.
