The Chapman Stick, like an instrument from the future, has the range and playability of a piano combined with the expressiveness and timbre of a guitar and bass hybrid. The stick is held vertically and played with both hands using a technique known as tapping. Instead of plucking the strings or using a pick, tapping involves quickly pressing the strings to produce notes. This unique invention has a distinctive, harmonically rich sound, capable of producing percussive staccato strokes, sparkling chords, and buttery-smooth melodies.
The Evolution 10 String Stick lets you experience this truly amazing sound in a virtual performance, carefully sampled to recreate all the capabilities of the original instrument.
The standard model has ten strings, divided into five high and five low, giving you a range of over 5 octaves. We sampled each string individually across the entire fretboard. The Evolution 10 String Stick automatically detects which strings and frets to use based on the position of both hands. You can also select the split point between the high and low ranges on the keyboard. Automated features like these make playing a MIDI keyboard easy, while still maintaining a natural, authentic sound.
We developed the library in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company, one of Utah’s most respected recording studios. Guy Randle, the company’s owner and engineer, used analog audio equipment to skillfully convey and highlight the rich tonal qualities of the instrument. The Evolution 10 String Stick contains both a recorded and enhanced signal that can be mixed however you like.
We look forward to you exploring all the features and presets of the Evolution 10 String Stick and letting its unique sound inspire you to achieve your musical goals.
