Convergent

The Convergent Bank contains 220 sound presets developed from material resonance exploration.
Using surface transducers to vibrate and move metallic objects, the objects themselves become the new sound source, creating abstract, elemental deviations from the original synth recordings.
Combine Oil Drum and Thunder Sheet resonances with the original synth material to create tonal and spatial variations, often resulting in lumbering harmonic disturbances.
An additional thunder layer was captured using the Lom Geofon – a sensitive omnidirectional contact microphone originally designed for seismic measurements. With a frequency response of just 10 Hz, the Geofon layer adds depth and power to the Convergent Bank.

Divergent

The Divergent Bank contains 220 presets that use more traditional re-amplification techniques.
The synth samples were sent through two 180-watt cabinets (in stereo) that placed the source material in a physical environment and added width and color.
Combine the various mic channels and outboard circuits with the original recordings to create unique and unfamiliar synth tones that allow for careful control of nuances before any effects are applied.
Captured with a pair of exquisite Sanken CU-41s, their wide response ensures impeccable fidelity and retains the weight and detail of the source material.
A pair of SM-57s were also used, offering a brighter, more characterful alternative to the Sankens.
The original synth samples and mic recordings from the Sanken and SM57 were also sent through a Korg MS-20 external signal processor, overloading the already suppressed signal to create uncontrollable, devastating results.

Relics

The Relic Bank contains 20 presets that create an alternative sonic world of warmth and nostalgia.
The source material was re-recorded to 1/4″ tape and cassette before being sent through dedicated effects pedals to create rich, gritty textures that extend the Vessels palette beyond the source material.
The relics are left untouched primarily to preserve the patina created by the process. Noise and thermal distortion from the interrupt signal transforms the sounds into something more organic and human.

Shot with precision at the esteemed Holy Mountain studios in Hackney, Vessels was born from experimentation and in-depth exploration of object resonance. The Holy Mountain sessions took place over a year, allowing concepts to be tested, rejected and refined.
