Bau is a Chinese wind instrument, originated in Yunnan Province in southwestern China, it has become the standard instrument throughout China used in modern Chinese compositions for traditional instrumental ensembles. This instrument is also closely associated with the Hmong, Yi, Hani and other minority cultures in southwestern China. It is usually used as a solo instrument and is often featured in films; it is sometimes also heard in popular music recordings.
Although Bavu is still performed primarily in China, in recent years it has been accepted by European composers and performers.
