Smasher is an unprecedented user modification of the classic Urei 1176 compressor circuit, a unique formula that we came across while fine-tuning other algorithms.
The original hardware of the 1176 compressor offered a choice of four ratios, but studio engineers soon found that tapping them simultaneously resulted in a distorted, explosive, and highly compressed sound. It is this “All Buttons in” or “British” mode that was carefully designed by Smasher to recreate.
Staying very close to the original design, the modifications we have built into Smasher will add definition to transients and make your tone more aggressive. We like to use it to improve the atmosphere in the drums, but there are many other creative uses. Smasher will not work on every track, but where it works, it works magically.
Smasher stands out with rude and rude sounds reminiscent of bands such as Vulfpeck, The Whitefield Brothers and The Black Keys.
