If you are familiar with the Ostinato sister libraries and our approach to ostinato recording, you will feel right at home with the woodwinds. The approach is completely different from our usual phrase recording tools in that we record individual intervals for the different rhythmic blocks. After careful editing, we combine these intervals using an intelligent script that turns them into chords with 5 different voices and up to 4 inversions (the fourth is for 7th chords only). New arpeggio inversion controls create inversion patterns with a single keystroke… a very quick way to create interesting sequences.

Ostinato Woodwinds recognizes and plays 12 different chord types, handling not only major and minor chords, but also diminished, half-diminished, augmented chords and many more.

The engine not only builds chords based on the inversion you play in the chord area. When you play in the harmonic shift area, it also determines what inversion it plays (based on the chord that came before it), the quality of the chord in the key you’re in, and the position of the chord you’re playing in that key. This ensures that transitions are smooth and harmonically correct, which is especially important for creating dynamic brass motifs.

We went back to the great recording space we’ve used for other Sonokinetic orchestral libraries and brought together some of the greatest (and purest) woodwind players around. With a full woodwind section at our disposal, we were able to tap into their full range, allowing for a wider palette of tones in the Ostinato engine, with up to 8 notes played simultaneously. Although at first glance the interface looks the same as other libraries, Ostinato Woodwinds has several new features, including the aforementioned arpeggio controls and 4 individually modifiable sections (instead of 3 for strings and brass), allowing for more flexibility in choosing chord shapes.

Ostinato Woodwinds coexists with our Orchestral Series libraries and those based on phrases that were recorded in the same room, with identical microphone positions and even with some of the same players. Our orchestral libraries work beautifully together.

We at Sonokinetic BV are proud to present Ostinato Woodwinds to you and we can’t wait to hear what amazing things you, the musicians, can create with this library.
