Horns and trombones. Orb Horns and Bones is the counterpart to our Orb Trumpets brass library. We recorded the horns and trombones in their traditional placement in the same room at Orb Studios in Austin, Texas. Aside from the obvious desire to complement the brass section (minus the tuba), we wanted to see how this performance-oriented sampling style would sound in a full context.

As with the trumpets, all samples were taken from specially selected phrases and programmed to take full advantage of their sound. The resulting smoothness allows for energetic, melodic writing – all without any key switching. Simply adjust the speed: soft for faster notes in a phrase, hard for longer ‘landing’ notes. A control wheel for dynamics. That’s it!

The horns and trombones have also been hand-tuned to taste, preserving important intonation features that really show their usefulness when playing chords/lines in the context of their respective sections and with their brass counterparts.
